Welcome to my online portfolio. My name is Emily Carlin and I’m a freelance Web Designer. I’m the Co-founder of Swank Web Style. We are a full service design studio offering custom web design for bloggers, professionals and small businesses. We also offer templates, custom illustration and graphics as well as web hosting and domains.

I’ve always been “artsy”, and my love of drawing and painting took me to Art and Design school where I discovered that being a painter was not a feasible career choice if I wanted to pay my rent, so I chose to pursue the “design” part of her school and became familiar with programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Designing websites started as a hobby when I wanted to make my own layout for my blog, so I taught herself (x)HTML and CSS. Flash forward 4 years and I’ve designed over 200 websites and have extensive knowledge of all the major content management systems, though I’m partial to WordPress. I’m also a perfectionist who still hand codes everything because code produced from WYSIWYG and HTML editors has been known to make me nauseas. I prefer clean, light and semantic markup. This means all my clients get a fast loading, search engine optimized website that is beautiful and elegant on the outside as well as under the hood.
