59/365 - February 28, 2010

I bet you would think that I went to a beach to get these photos? Nope. I took these in the Target parking lot in a suburb of Richmond, VA, nowhere near the ocean. I have no idea why there were hundreds of sea gulls hanging out at Target but I’m really happy with these photos, so they can do what they want.

At first they were all just standing around being boring. I walked right up to them hoping some would fly, but they were completely unfazed and just stared through me. I went back to the car and we were about to leave when all of sudden someone drove by and threw some popcorn out of their car window (there is a movie theater next to the Target) and all the gulls all went crazy! They took off and started flying around in circles and kamikaze driving to get the popcorn. It was pretty awesome to watch.

I got so many pictures that I couldn’t narrow down which ones I liked best, so I have another post coming up later today.

I don’t have enough money for a macro lens (getting a telephoto was more important for me right now, but macro is next!) so I bought some macro filters instead. I was looking for something small to test them out with and I remembered my collection of extra buttons in my sewing kit. I’ll have to to play around with them some more, but the filters seem to work pretty well.
